ABOUT STUDIO CITY

Mack Sennett, a producer and director of silent films moved his studio to southern California in the early 1920s, and the area around the studio soon became known as Studio City. Before rebranding as Republic Studios, the Mack Sennett Studios was responsible for films starring the Keystone Kops, Charlie Chaplin, and Fatty Arbuckle. Bette Davis, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, and many others started at Republic. Currently, the studio is named CBS Studio Center under CBS's management. The studio is the area's most significant employment and benefactor to the neighborhood. Gilligan's Island, Gunsmoke, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, CSI: New York, Will & Grace, Seinfeld, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Last Man Standing are just some of the shows that have been and are being filmed in CBS Studio Center.

Studio City is also well-known for its friendly, close-knit local community. The weekly Farmers Market is one of the best in Los Angeles, and the Winter Family Festival and the Luminaria Festival are two of Studio City's most popular yearly celebrations.

Studio City, despite the name, is not a separate city but a neighborhood in Los Angeles. It is in LA County's 3rd and LA City Council 2nd districts and has a total area of 5.727 square miles. Studio City is surrounded by the communities of Valley Village, Toluca Lake, Universal City, Hollywood Hills West, Beverly Crest, and Sherman Oaks to the north, west, and south, respectively. In 2008, the population of the city was recorded at 34,790. Public schools such as North Hollywood High School, Walter Reed Middle School, Dixie Canyon Community School, Rio Vista Elementary, and Colfax Charter Elementary can be found in the neighborhood.

THINGS TO DO IN STUDIO CITY

Studio City, in the San Fernando Valley, is often called the "Beverly Hills" of California because of its prosperous economy and relaxed pace of life compared to neighboring Hollywood. Do you want to see famous people just like you? Ventura Boulevard has high-end stores, sushi eateries, and hiking paths in Studio City.

See & Do
Wilacre Park's Fryman Canyon is a moderately strenuous 3-mile loop between Studio City and the Hollywood Hills, offering hikers of all skill levels breathtaking panoramas of the Los Angeles basin. You're more likely to see a celebrity or two here on a morning run than in Hollywood, and it's less congested than pretentious Runyon Canyon. One more benefit? George Clooney's house is conveniently located near the path.

Anybody here enjoys sushi? Studio City has many excellent sushi restaurants along a stretch of Ventura Boulevard known as "Sushi Row." As the first port of call for sushi boats from Japan, Sushi Row can confidently claim to serve the freshest sushi in the United States. In addition, sushi purists should make a point of eating at Katsuya, Asanebo, and Iroha.

Party taverns and gastropubs dominate the nightlife in Studio City. The Firefly Restaurant and Bar is well-known as a trendy hangout frequented by professionals from related fields. Grass-fed burgers, steamed mussels, and pork belly skewers are just a few of the bar bites that will have you drooling at Laurel Tavern. The arrival of Black Market Liquor Bar, a trendy new gastropub with Top Chef alumna Antonia Losfaso at the kitchen's helm, has contributed significantly to Ventura Boulevard's rise in tragically hip status.

Stay
The Sportsmen's Lodge Hotel, a Studio City institution since 1962, has hosted "Old Hollywood" greats, including Clark Gable, Bette Davis, and Katharine Hepburn. The hotel was constructed on eight acres of land, and its grounds are beautifully manicured with waterfalls, gazebos, native plants and animals, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Sportsmen's Lodge is a historic lodge in the heart of Los Angeles with the look and feel of a mountain ski lodge.

Shop
The fashionable boutiques and national businesses that line Studio City's famous Ventura Boulevard are hard to miss. Displays of merchandise from Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and Free People may be seen. Dari, Hoity-Toity, and Diana's Boutique are just a few of the specialized shops in the area. In search of seductive undergarments? You never know who you could bump into when you visit Sara's Lingerie for your lingerie and sleepwear needs.
